The decision to call a therapist requires courage. I respect and admire your seeking help – You're taking the first step towards improving your life! My counseling philosophy is grounded on the principles that discovery and trust are cornerstones to growth. Discovery includes increased self-understanding, learning new skills, gaining knowledge, and finding a new life path more suited to your true self. Trust starts with trusting yourself – getting acquainted with your strengths, believing in yourself, and learning to trust your inner voice to guide your outer voice. Trust is based in honesty, hope, caring, and following through on promises. In counseling, I apply these principles in many ways, including honest and direct communication, instilling hope that you are capable of a life you can be proud of, and making you and your health a priority. Counseling involves collaboration – we work together to accomplish these goals. My responsibility and pledge is a commitment to listening and understanding, and providing expertise, current and accurate information/resources, and determination to find realistic and outcome-oriented solutions.
My Background:
I grew up in Silver Spring, MD, received my Bachelor's at Towson University (1992) and my PhD from Palo Alto University (2001). I received my certification through AASP as a Sport Consultant in 2016. I have clinical experience in a range of settings, including outpatient private practice, inpatient hospitalization (children and adults), residential treatment (adolescents), College Counseling Center (Johns Hopkins Univ), community mental health, Employee Assistance (EAP), and Job Corps.
My fees:
I work for you, not for any insurance company. While I complete required paperwork to support out-of-network reimbursement, I am not a “participating provider” because this gives insurance companies the opportunity to influence treatment decisions. My regular session fee is $210 per clinical hour, and my first session/intake fee is $350 (1.5 hours). I am willing to work with you on these costs based on your specific situation.
My specialization include:
- Individual counseling from early adolescence through adulthood
- Adolescent, Emerging Adult, Young Adult issues
- Marriage/relationship counseling
- Sport psychology/performance enhancement
